1-2m north-northeast swell at 6 seconds peaks Saturday dawn under blown-out conditions, dropping to 1m Sunday with strong northeast wind. Mid-week eases to 1m at 4-10 seconds as moderate northeast wind builds to strong by Wednesday, the week's peak. A fresh 1-2m northwest pulse at 9-10 seconds arrives Thursday under strong north wind, building to 2m by Friday evening before easing through the weekend under moderate north-northeast wind. Looks like Thursday dawn will be the best window.

About Galicia

Galicia is the north-west corner of Spain, a wild Atlantic coast that catches North Atlantic swell head-on. Pantin, the right-hand point break on the north coast, hosts the Pantin Classic WSL event each September. Razo is the open beach break that picks up everything. Doniños and Patos round out the short list of marquee spots. The coast is called the Costa da Morte for the shipwrecks; the swell hits at full power and the wind tears at it just as hard.

The west to north-west swell runs year-round but the season is September through April. Working size is 0.5 to 3 m at 9 s or longer. South to south-east wind is offshore. Razo turns on with a clean south. North wind kills it. Pantin handles size when the open beaches close out. Winter storms push 3 m+ at 15 s+, big-wave territory at the exposed reefs.

Water runs 12 to 13 °C in March and 18 to 21 °C by August. A 4/3 with boots covers most of the year, a 5/4 the heart of winter, a 3/2 summer. Crowds are thin compared to Biarritz, even at Pantin outside the contest week. Rips run hard at Valdoviño, rocks at most reefs, and the wind flips fast. Razo on a south is the day to clear your calendar; Pantin on a clean north-west is the back-up when Razo closes out.
